John, I had no idea they are just over the hill from me.  Maybe we should think about a group buy including the Modesto crowd.  Seems to me we should be able to get a good break on quantity and with them not having to pay shipping.  I could carry a fair amount in my F250 and bring it out to a Modesto match.  It would also get me off my butt to come out and shoot. Wink

Dave,

You need to shoot with the Modesto group. They're a great bunch of guys to shoot with. We, the Fresno shooters(Central Sierra Shuetzen Club), make the trip to Modesto any chance we get. Maybe our paths will cross someday.

Spot price for virgin lead is around .80 lb and Roto metals sells  their lead for $2.30+ lb. And  you don't think that is exorbitant? I currently have over 1000 lbs of pure lead and never paid over .60 lb. Scrap yards, garage sales, and good friends keep me supplied. So far don't need Roto Metals.

I like Roto metals as you get what you paid for, not crap.
I got my last 200lbs of lead for .50 a pound at a scrap yard up in Tracy in the Bay area. It was all sheet lead as in gutters and looks like virgin lead. It melts like it too.
As far as propane goes you can use natural gas if your house is equipped with it and just put on a separate feed line, a temp one to your melting furnace. I use a Turkey fryer unit and a cast iron pot.
