Hi all,
I,,m going to look at a first bpcr gun friday and thought i,d post here for any info on it.
I am going to look at a navy arms rem rolling block.
unfired, 45-70, 30"?, brass trigger guard and barrel band.
First owner had it for a long time supposedly didn'shoot it cause he had others. Got away from shooting, yada, yada...
it isnwhat it is and i will see what shakes down tomorrow
he wants 600
This is NOT an investment purchase. I see folks asking that and more so i will go by gut feel when i see it.
i am looking for info on the gun or type
I have been reloading for a couple decades abd cast for bullseye pistol
i am a cba mamber

I'll post more on me in general discussion when i get home next week. I'm typing this on a nook color and it's driving me to drink. Literally!

Thanks all and a big HOWDY

Cabelas has or had a Pedersoli 45/70 rb that they were closing out that were getting close to that price.  I picked one up a couple of years ago and spent almost as much on sights.  Wink  Not a bad way to get going in black powder.

I handload for my 14" contender 45-70.
Will similar loads work in this?

I have a friend who loads a lasercast about 405gr with trailboss to about 1100fps. It's a nice load i would like to try also

This will be a great starter gun. you have all the tools for learning with this gun.
A couple of tips keep your reloads to black powder pressures the rolling block is a safe, but still classified as a weaker action.
Second tip you mention that you already cast for pistol and CBA. When casting for this rifle leave all that hardball for pistols and CBA. Use only pure lead up to 1:30 tin to lead at most. I know that you got all this lino, wheelweights, whatever but this wants a softer bullet for best results.

I shoot with a friend who has the same Navy Arms rifle and cannot shoot it as something is broken. He knows what the problem is, but can't find the part.  Based on his experience, parts could be a problem. My local gunshop has a Pedersoli target model roller in 45-70 in excellent condition with nice sights for a bit more. The Pedersoli is a high quality rifle and you can get parts should anything break.

Well i own it now. It is unfired with nott a mark on it.

I figured i would have to use straighht lead or sweetened with tin depending on the mold design.

It,s too bad pedersoli doesn,t support it.

I have a big pedersoli roller. beautiful gun. With a 500 gr simple Lee bullet, 25 to 1 cast and 63 grains of schuetzen 1.5 f I was able to hit a couple of 10-X at 600 yds with the help of a seasoned coach/spotter. The gun is very capable. I am not a great or consistent shot. But I have had that gun drill tight holes at 200 yds with a 405 grain soft bullet and 31 grains of IMR-3031. It has been happy with proper smokeless and BP loads. I DID have to spend some on a soule sight. well worth it.

Enjoy that gun!!

BTW, the bp loads had a .30 vegetable fiber wad and about 1/16th inch compression. I think, I would have to dig out the notebook. But was drop tubed, 24" into the case then compressed with a compression plug I got from track of the wolf, just to the point the lee 550 gr pointed bulllet would seat to the driving band. No crimp, neck sized only with a very slight flare at the mouth upon sizing. the flare was smoothed out upon bullet seating.
