Any of you hear of or use a Unertl style scope made by Rodac??
What is the quality like, when were they made, etc.  Thanks.  Bob

You saw that too? I've wondered myself, and can't seem to find anything on the web. The e-bay bidders either know something we can't find out or are willing to gamble. It's up to $240 this morning. No mounts, so add $400 for DZ. It's got 3 days to go, and is already beyond my willingness to take a risk. Could be a winner, could be a disappointment. I don't know. Anyone else?

Thanks Kermit for the link !  I put it on my "Watch List" to see how it's progressing.

I'm working under the assumption that it's a Unertl clone until I can determine otherwise.

The problem with e-bay prices is that you're seeing either someone who knows something about the value of an item that you don't know and is willing to pay more than you'll risk--or someone who knows nothing and is bidding with wild abandon just to "win." In either case, things go to someone willing to pay more than anyone else is, not necessarily what's a "fair" price. In this case, I'm suspecting the second option, since a web search reveals nothing on scopes with the name Rodac. Puzzle.

   Kermit :

I had a slight bit of success by using "RodacUSA"  ,  apparently they have done some U.S. Gov't work with optic and lighting devices.

Better figure on another $100-$175 for mounts for it.  I seem to remember hearing that they were a decent scope, but could not compete with Unertl and Lyman taking the lion's share of the market.

David, Are you thinking used external mounts at those figures?

The scope in question was made in Japan, probably in the 60s. The tube is aluminum, the spring and retainers are steel. The optics are very good and the power is 10x or 8x depends on where you look, eyepiece marked 10, the adjustment ring marked 8. The guy selling has sold a bunch, his boss bought on speculation. They sat in storage for a long time and are new. All that I have seen or handled have loose cross hairs, glue let loose. I have put new hairs in several for this seller. The mounts never showed up, but standard fecker, unertl, etc fit, just generally cost more than the scope.

Hmmmm? If there's a set of Unertl target mounts at $200 (or less!), let me know where!

Tom, are you saying this guy has more than one of these scopes? He may have the world's known stock.

I don't know how many he may have left. I first encountered one of these scopes about 3 years ago on e-bay. It  sold for about $100, with bad hairs. I bought 4 others up to $175, asked about how many he had, and received several. I think at that time he not looked in all the boxes, he had inherited. So, the real answer is I don't know, but they are pretty nice scopes. The mounts are the issue.

Yes, the scopes the cheap part. The mounts are already at $430.  I was thinking both for $300.  I know, I'm a dreamer. Might as well buy a good Unertl.  Bob
