Stopped at a local big box store and they havce the new Federal UM22 on the shelf.  14.99 a box.  Has any one shot this yet?  Still a little chilly up North here in Wisconsin, talking snow this weekend so going to the range in 3o mile winds is not an option.  they have two lots on the shelf.  It look well lubed , have not weighed them yet or rim checked.

   Sports Lube :

    I would like to know more about the " New " Federals that you mentioned;

    1) Does the packaging indicate bullet weight, muzzle velocity, and is the bullet round nose or flat nose ?

    2) Is the purchase price of $14.99 for a quantity of 50 ?

    3) Is this "big box store" a National chain, and if so, which one ?

    Thanks, weather here in central PA is having great shooting weather.  If I can locate some of what you have there, I'd be happy to check it out today at the range in the BSA-Martini and report back.

The new Fed. UM22 is a 40gr. / mv 1080fps.  Would not call the nose exactly round , and not exactly flat- how is that for a confusing answer. Manufactured in Germany.

IMHO you're going to be dissappointed. If you're looking for an ELEY/Lapua alternative you might look into the RWS now coming in.

Well that's a tough comparison. Although the other two are related to Lapua, Lapua  labeled ammo is generally held to tighter quality standards from what I hear. Given that however I'd say no.

I used Federal 900 B for a long time, 711 B for pratice. Good stuff both. Then Federal gave up on target shooters. Last lot of 711 B I had was worthless.  Now they are buying from somebody and labeling it.

Not for me I want match ammo with a name I can trust. If it is in fact R50 and 15 dollars a box you are saving two dollars over the real thing. Bet a dollar it's RWS Target and should sell for less than 15 dollars. Why would they re-badge R50 and sell it for less.

It's economy of scale. If RWS has a product w/ moderate sales numbers i.e., R50 and somebody (Federal) comes along and buys 8 million rounds of it (for re-packaging) seems like the seller (RWS) is gonna MAKE MONEY. OTOH, if it's truly RWS Target, Federal can't hurt their already "damaged" reputation by the repackaging.

Not hard to tell if it is in fact RWS R 50. See if it goes in one hole. I am shooting a large lot of it now and it will throw them in a group all day with no flyers. Not the smallest group. Still have some Federal 900b thats pretty good but the R50 you can count on not to throw one out.
