I thought some of you who have Cabin Fever as I do would enjoy reading this old article.

Thanks J.Louis. Always fun to read old stuff by old friends, writer and subject. Thanks for sharing it.

I liked the article by Larry Amrine too; I haven’t seen Larry for about thirty years.

Thank you, John,
I got to talk to Ken in early '87 and bought one of his left over unfinished actions. I also heard a lot about his barrels and refreshed ones from the local slug gunners.

I know you have one but, do you know how many finished actions he might have sold before selling out to Shuttleworth? From the article, he couldn't have made them for more than about two years, if that.

Frank I apologize due to not knowing how many actions Ken made but one would think that Paul and or Gail Schuttleworth would know and be able to answer your question.

J.Louis,  I've still got it, it's the rifle I shot at the 1982 Coors match. It's a Win. High Wall, cal 32-40, perfect bore, #4 wgt., matted top 3 flats, uncheckered fore end, mid range vernier tang & windgauge globe front with spirit level. It has pre-double set, double set triggers, like the ones in Campbell's book, front trigger has a long kicker, rather than the sear having a long tail & the assembly is pinned to the tang (beautiful job). The butt stock is, I believe a Special Sporter, if memory serves, the L. tang is stamped 3x (then Parkenfarker got hold of it) it had a Maple or Birch cheek piece inletted in to the left side of the stock & a butt plate from a #6 Ballard installed with the top prong cut off. Since the butt plate was narrower than the stock, he tapered the end of stock, about the last inch, to meet the plate. He must have been real proud of his work, because it must have hung on a wall (right side against wall) as all the left side color case is gone. I replaced the cheek piece with a piece of walnut, brought the stock down to fit the plate reshaped the plain "S" shaped long lever, reshaped the butt plate & had them both nickeled. If I can ever do a picture, you'll see it or maybe I'll Break Schutzen Bob's chops, again.

I remember when Ken made up those 44 1/2 actions. I believe he made 10 Pistol grip and 10 straight grip. It might have been 12 of each but no more than that.
