Shuetzen 8.15x46r Ammo

My wife has recently purchased a Shuetzen Rifle with some spent brass. She would love to shot it(me too) and I have been trying to find some ammo or loading supplies for this gun. Can anyone tell me the most affordable way to shoot this thing? I read that the bullet size is .337?? Is ther an off shelf cartridge that will work.

Thanks for the help.

You read Cartridges of the World, which is WRONG!

You will need to slug the bore to be certain of it's actual diameter, as the 8.15x46R can range from .314 to .319.  .316 to .318 is most usual, I beleive.

Hornady makes the least expensive dies in 8.15x46R, but RCBS and CH4D both makes dies also.

Making brass for it is quite easy if your rifle doesn't require the rim to be trimmed in diameter or thickness.  I use .30-30 winchester brass, full length size it in the 8.15 die with the decapping stem removed, then trim to length and the little shoulder line disappears on the first firing.

Depending on your actual bore diameter, there are a gazillion (slight exaggeration..) different bullet molds that will work.

Good powders to start with are 4227 or 4759.  There are also a number of others that work well. Those are just the two I've focused on.

Hope this helps!

I would (and did!) purchase the correct "Stop-ring" mould from NEI Hand Tools in Texas. My bore slugs at .316 and the bullet casts at .318. The usual load is 14 grn of 4227 giving superb accuracy. After the first firing, you will probably not need the dies to relaod---de and re cap, add powder and push the bullet home by hand up to the stop ring. I tumble lube the bullets in liquid alox.

You could start with some bullets from Buffalo Arms, which I believe are cast with those molds, before you invest in the mold. As Fred indicated, finger seat. I think I'm at 13.5 4227 with just a de/recap.

Invariably you'll have to play with load density to bring you into the sweetspot of rear sight adjustment depending on what tang sight is there. I've a mid range tang and bbl mounted feld sight and I'm good through 100-150 yards.

I've got a brand new old stock box of factory RWS 8.15x46R ammo! Also a set of Hornady dies for same! Don't have the gun anymore.
