I t seems like the shooting world could not decide what to call this[these] cartridges, could someone tell me about these two cartridges, the difference seems to be the rim dia, but why are they-so near alike, which one was first and etc. thanks for any info----ledball
P.S. sometimes this cartridge is refered to as 40/ 1 7/8

Same thing happened with the 40-70 SS (40. 2 1/2), Remington had the same straight case and stamped it 40-65 Rem.
