.32 IDEAL smokeless plinking load wanted

I need a starting load for plinking with my Ruger #3 in .32 IDEAL.  I want to use a 170gr jacketed bullet 'cause I have a bunch for some other .321" rifles I have.  I can't  use a .323" bullet ... anything over .321" won't chamber, and .321" bullets shoot accurately.

Anyway ... don't need anything to bust up the backstop ... just make round holes and noise.

I had been using 12.0gr of IMR-4198  with a 150gr bullet with Bertram cases.  I've now switched to RMC.

Thanks for your help!

I have a Winchester HW in 32 Ideal. I think that it should shoot better, than I have been able to do.  I breech seat but I use 10 -12 grains of 4227.  Here are a couple of targets.

As 4227 has proved to be a poor powder in all of the .357 based cartridges I would start out with AA#9. This powder has proved to be more consistant in the smaller based cartridges. I would try about 10.5 graing and adjust from there.

40 Rod I agree with you 100%.

We have a group of competitors who use the small class of cases starting with the 25-20, CPA 32-20. 32 Miller Short and 33-357Max. who have switched from AA-9 to AA-4100 and have realized an improved performance at the target. Loads are pretty much grain for grain with AA-9 and one can achieve the same velocity with noticeably less pressure.

I discovered this powder while looking for a H-108 replacement and it did not work out for me in the 32-40 capacity range of cases but was an extreme improvement to the above group using the smaller capacity cases.

I want to try the AA 4100 as you have said good things about it I still have about 20 lbs or so of WC820 that shoots measure for measure with H 108. Its good to know that when this surplus powder runs out there is something else.
