Duplex loads

Another thread brought up a this subject so, I thought i'd start a thread for it.

1.How many on the forum have shot duplex loads and what did you think of them?

2. How well did you do?

3. Are there any of the ASSRA clubs that still shoot duplex?

Tried it a few times but don't use them,  matches I shoot that require black powder limit to Straight Black. If you can use smokless at all no reason to use duplex. Far as I know any ASSRA club would let you use Duplex. I shoot Black in ASSRA Schuetzen at times just for the fun of it.

If a match was BP specific and allowed duplex loading it would be the way go go for sure.

I shot some traditional duplex loads when I started out. I found no advantage. When the Goex plant in Moosic blew up and black powder dried up I stopped and never looked back.

I use duplex loads. Used to use duplex loads when I shot a lot of BP matches. Duplex is the only load I use in my breech muzzle loaders.

ASSRA rules allow any powder.  Dont have the new rule book yet so dont know if the powder rule has been changed.

You can use any safe powder charge. It's a very good rule. Good old common sense.

I shoot duplex loads in black powder matches where allowed.  You don't need to clean or blow between shots.  Keeps the match moving along quickly.  Old Colony Sportsmans Club schuetzen matches in Pembrook, MA allow duplex loads not to exceed 10% in their black powder match.

Assra rules allow any safe load, black-duplex-smokeless, I agree its a very good rule, "shoot what you brung" and have fun.  ledball
