Hope that this is posted in the right forum.....I've got a rifle that was owned my father and am trying to find out some information on it. It is a Winchester High Wall rifle built by R.L. Wallack Jr. of Langhorne PA and chambered in .219 Donaldson. The scope is a Fecker with a 1 1/2" objective. The mounts are Litschert. Any information would be appreciated.

You have a classic (?) 1940s to 1950s varmint rifle built on a Winchester High Wall action.  The action has a single set trigger, making it pretty desirable.  IIRC, Wallack was one of the better known gunsmiths of the period.  The firing pin should have been bushed or otherwise fitted for that high pressure cartridge.

Did you get all the case forming and loading dies with it?

Did the serial number on the lower tang survive?  Sometimes, bending the lower tang to form a pistol grip obliterates the #.  Are there any markings on the barrel under the fore-end?

You might find more info on Wallack & his work on the Doublegun Single barrel forum moderated by Michael Petrov.

It could also have been a early bench rest gun from the time when Harvey Donnaldson started bench rest stooting in the USA.

You might see if your father ever competed in those matches, if thats possible.

The serial number on the tang did survive. The rifle is in the 87,000 range. I removed the fore-end and the barrel is marked L.R. Wallack JR with a date of 11 10 49 and G365.

My dad didn't own the rifle for very long and he never shot it. I purchased the dies and brass for him for this christmas, but due to circumstances I didn't get any rounds loaded for him...

I'll check the double gun forum and contact Mr. Petrov.

Thanks for the replies,
Len

Hello, that is a nice looking custom rifle!  I too have a Wallack Jr. built rifle in .219 Wasp.  It is built on a Firearms International mauser action.  26" Winchester mod. 70 stainless barrel (.220 Swift), bouble-set triggers, and has fancy grained walnut stock with large dished cheekpiece.  The RCBS case forming die set cost more than rifle!  One thing you should check is the chamber length..This was nearly the first center fire rifle I started hand loading for, and really didn't know that much at time..RCBS set had file-trim die.  It was only reciently I made chamber cast..chamber was a full .060" longer than RCBS die length.  Always wondered  why I had to seat bullets so far out to reach rifling!

Thanks for the information on the chamber length. I'm afraid that I will not get to shoot the it as I have decided to sell the rifle and have listed it on GB.

22-5-40,  There is more than one version of the .219 Wasp.  Sounds like you have the"NLV" version.  I don't know if it's an earlier version or a later one than the one Harvey Donaldson settled on.  There is a fellow that advertises both versions of preformed brass from 30-30 cases on GB.  Sure made it a lot easier for me.  Bob
