Low Wall Primer strike

I have an 1893 Win. Low Wall that has been a (successful) restoration project. It was a mess. What I gather is that it is a centerfire conversion from a rimfire. It has been rebarreled in .22 Hornet and my question is this - the primer strike is about .030" off center (low at 6 o'clock). The rifle shoots very well and is totally reliable so I am not too concerned. Unless someone tells me I should be! Also, I am wondering if anyone has used Uberti parts in their original Low Walls with any success. Since Ballard went under they seem to be the only game I can find if a new breech block is required.
Many thanks, Mike Thomas

Mike, AFAIK, Ballard is still in business... Steve Durren, their gunsmith, posted on here about a week ago saying they had whatever part someone had asked about in stock for order.  I would be leery of the Uberti parts in an original Winchester, as a lot of the dimensions seem to have lost quite a bit in translation... somebody could prove me wrong, but I would expect at best a lot of fitting and at worst a total mismatch on Italian vs US parts.  What part(s) are you looking for?

As far as the low-primer strike is concerned, that is usually not a real bad thing as long as ignition is not compromised.  If you have a .32 rf block that has been bushed, it was originally drilled a little low to get the lower edge of the firing pin body down to the edge of the rim.  Larger rimfire calibers, I am told, are worse.  I had one .32 rf block that was sufficiently low to cause ignition problems, but the problem was solved with a different link... it had the holes a few thousandths farther apart, among other things.  Don't ask me for more details as that is out of my pay grade, but somebody else can probably fill you in if needed.

HTH, but if you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you Froggie for your response! Ballard's web site has disappeared, does anyone have a working phone for them?
In any event, the rifle is shooting wonderfully so I'm afraid to touch it!
Got to love this site and those who frequent it,
Mike
