Ballard Rifle Co High Wall

Here is the other rifle I got back from the 'smith this week-end.  He put on the Kelley front globe sight.  I've had the rifle for 3 years and haven't shot it yet.  It's been rechambered to .30-30 by a previous owner, from .30 Wesson (I believe).  I'm off to the range as soon as it dries out some.  I've never shot with vernier sights.  Should be interesting.

Interesting!  What goes around, comes around!  I had that rifle built in 30 Wesson.  Shot great.  Sold it when I began to concentrate about 99% on original Stevens rifles.  When I sold it, it had dies, brass and moulds so I can't imagine why someone rechambered to 30-30.

AC, thanks for the history lesson.  If I may ask, when did you commission it?

Will have to reply off the top of my head since most of my old paper work is still stashed somewhere in the garage (we moved recently after living in the same cave for about 30 years!).  My best memory is that I received the rifle from the Ballard Co. sometime in 2000 or 2001 and sold it about three years later.  I had, at that time, four rifles from the Ballard Co and all were fine shooters.  All gone now in favor of original Stevens, some of which don't shoot quite as well, but at my advancing age they do provide a great deal of pride of ownership.

I'm presently looking for any model Stevens (44 or 44 1/2 action) in 22 Short and 22 WRF in case you have hiding somewhere.

I think you will enjoy the 30-30.  My first single-shot cast bullet rifle was a custom Ruger #1 in that caliber that still does well at our local CBA and Schuetzen matches when the current owner remembers to show up and does his part.

Cheers,
Leon
