High Wall Weaver-style Scope Mounts

Been looking around for a set of Weaver-style mounts. Want to shoot my 32-40 High Wall in our local center-fire 300yd silhouette match (not BPCR) and use a modern scope. Only thing I've been able to find states that they may need to be shimmed. I would prefer to not have to shim anything. Doesn't anyone make a set that actually fits? Do hate to use Leupold mounts & rings as I much prefer Weaver. Thanks.

You have to angle the the front of the scope down some how. If the mount is on the flat of a octagon barrel. You could buy a second mount and have it milled on a taper. .020-.030 should do it. Don't change the height of the rings, both need to be the same height to avoid bending the scope. If you do shim, shim at the rear most screw hole and tighten the front and rear, then just snug the others so the mount it's self won't bend. I suppose you could could machine the front ring and then lap the front and rear together. It would be a lot more work. With a mil-dot scope jus use a different line to aim with.

Not knowing what brand or model of High Wall you have I can only respond based on my experience with the Browning BPCR model.  To get around the shimming requirement when using Weaver bases, I use Burris Signature rings made for Weaver bases, and use their Pos-Align insert kit.  Works great.

Pete,

As indicated in the opening post for this thread, it's not a Browning BPCR.  If it was, I would agree with you on the rear base (Weaver #11),  but I found that the front base would be a Weaver #29 (as recommended by Weaver for the high wall octagon barrel).  Go to (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).

If the Weaver #16 also fits for the front base, I'd sure like to get your confirmation on that.  What is the height of the #16?  Just to clarify, by BPCR I assume you are referring to the heavy barrel 1/2 octaton 1/2 round Badger barrel version.  Some shooters incorrectly refer to other versions with a full-length tapered octagon barrel as a Browning BPCR model also.

I may have to pick up a #16 base to see how it compares to the #29, or call Weaver for details.

Kelblys makes a set of scope rings that fit scope blocks.  You can use them for your modern scope.  Lightweight, and very strong.  I have them on some modern varmint rifles.

Am shooting one of the newer Miroku made Winchester branded high walls. Using the Burris Sig rings with inserts makes it painless. Thanks for reminding me (I use them on my BR rimfire 40-X).
