What are the generally held opinions concerning the ability of Sweet's to remove 1) carbon fouling, 2) lead, and 3) copper residue from a rifle bore based upon your experience ?

Sweets is formulated to remove Copper. May do the other things too but copper is what it's made for. Have used a bunch of it in 30/1906 03's and M 1's

Creedmore. Why all the recent questions about bore cleaning. My single shots only need a spray with Ballistol let it sit and wipe it out. No more than half a dozen tight patches and it's slick as a whistle.  I only shoot lead and normal Schuetzen velocity.  I will get a little lead around the forcing cone on my S&W 625 IDPA revolver. Most recently After a long match 200-300 rounds of factory cast bullets.   Ballistol got that out too. Added a brushing to the cleaning routine that's all.

If leading is a problem best fix the problem rather than come up with aggressive ways to clean.

   Boats:

Thanks for your reply, and Yes, I agree with everything you've said.  I've never has a bore leading problem until just recently.  I believe it to be rooted in the fact that I " contracted out " for bullets from a mould that I do not possess.  After receiving the quantity of bullets and shooting them last week at the Thurmont match, the CPA accuracy went South due to lead in the bore.

I have always shot my own cast bullets (Houch) with 1-24 temper following Paul Shuttleworth's able guiadance with excellent results.  Chris put me on to Sweets with a small quantity of .321" jacketed (copper) bullets in order to bring the barrel back to accurracy.  First time for Sweets for me.

If you use it , don't leave it for more than about 1/2 hour per session and get it all out, do not let it combine with other solvents as some combinations can cause damage, particularly with SS.

Thanks Tin-S for the cautionary note.        I'm kind of old fashion when it comes to long guns, .   .   .   . I don't do stainless steel.  If it's not available in blued steel , then it doesn't come into my gun safe.  Just personal preference, you know.

Creedmore The Sweets is good stuff but like most jacketed bullet solvents it works chemically on the copper and can have some undesired effects.  Don't leave it long wipe out good and it's just fine for copper fowling.
