The product as it comes from the container is a tanish grey color, but after contact with ferrous metal, it turns black in color.

Rub some JB Bore Clean or Flitz on a non ferrous or ferrous metal and the prduct will turn blank.  Why?  Because they both contain ammonia.  So does silver or brass polish

[quote]To my valued customers,
I regret to inform you due to physical problems and other conditions beyond my control, J-B BORE CLEANER will no longer be available.

I wish to thank you for your patronage through out the years.

If you should be wondering where the above came from, and what, if anything, it has to do with the present, it allegedly was a correspondence dated 1996 received by one Clay Spencer (never heard of him) a well know gun master (whatever that means) from Virginia which was sent to him by Mr. Jim Brobst.

It was found at (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

You decide what a 14 year old letter has to do with anything.

With regard to Blindeye using toothpaste as a cleaning or polishing agent, it also reminded me its also great stuff if your in the jungle suffering from the many types of  tinea or skin rashes you can get in your nether regions. Not so pretty though as the purple stuff the Army used to supply to dab on your skin. Wonder if they still use that stuff. regards.

Never found any carbon buildup in any of my rifles Dave.  I remember one year at Tommies we could see it in one of your barrels.  My load is much milder.  Maybe thats why.

But Joe you know it is much colder in Canada and we have to use hotter loads.

   Schuetzen Dave:

I figured the hotter loads were needed to buck the constant prevailing head winds that blow from west to east across Canada.

Driving across Canada heading west in that big diesel really sucked up the fuel in a hurry.

I'm a newbie to JB's in just the last 2 yrs. Bought it to get copper fouling out of a couple of Savage 99's.  Works great, and in my opinion helped reduce further copper fouling.  Have also used it to an old Favorite, a Stevens 418, a 10/22 and some pistols I bought used as well, to get them really clean.  After the first time, I then go back to patches and Hoppe's or Eezox though.  Have also just started using the finer pinkish JB Borebright too, especially after I leaned a guy who made a custom barrel for one of my High Standard pistols uses it for hand lapping before shipping.  No wear that I can see on any of my guns.  The Savage's both shoot to .7" at 100 yrd, and you guys have seen the accruracy of the Stevens 418 on one of my previous posts.
It's a winner in my mind--it definitely gets out what a brass brush and cleaner wont do. I do have a Ruger Security Six that will lead the bbl. with hot loads, for that I just follow up with a couple of jacketed bullets and them maybe JB if there is still a little left in the throat area.
Yes--I always use a boreguide and clean from breach end too (action type permitting)

The bore bright is far less abrasive. I would say the while ultimately the JB will work on carbon, IOSSO works faster/better, you have to swap out patches that load up a few times but the IOSSO works extremely well on the carbon and is less abrasive, it is more of a chemical reaction to hard carbon fouling. You know you're done when patches go from a charcoal black to a grayish color.
