This one was converted to 219 Zipper. Sold today. I had a bid on it and got busy with another problem and lost track of the auction.GB189587388 sold for $360. I am still kicking myself for missing this one. Anyone here get it? Would like to compare notes if they did.

That adds 1 to the known (& short) list of Bisleys.  Why would someone convert a rifle like that to Zipper? If you had it, could it be restored to something like its original configuration?

My plan was to convert it back to .22 if I had bought it. Liner should do it and switch breachblock back to rimfire. Ticked at myself for missing it. There are like 5 that I have confirmed including mine. There was a single diget serial # gun sold at auction sometime back. There was lengthly discussion here on the Bisley. I bought mine from a guy who posted a request here for info. The seller of this one agreed to pass my info on the new owner so we could share info. No word from him yet. Why would somone convert it? People do it all the time, who knows why?

Slumlord:

The guy who converted it probably had no idea how rare it was.  To the casual eye, it looks like a standard Martini rimfire.  If you wanted a small bore centerfire varmint rifle, what better a choice than this one if you had it in hand.

I have an early Model 15 with the rarer form of pistol grip, as shown on the Adamsguns web site as Model 15 Special Stock.  See:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); Someone long ago converted it to centerfire and chambered it for a .22 Hornet.  If they really are rare, as Mr. Adams suggests, it is something of shame from a collectors point of view, but I like the gun and am fond of the .22 Hornet cartridge.  I wouldn't have done it, but it was already done when I found it and I have a number of other .22 rimfire Martinis, so there's no reason to convert it back to rimfire and line to bore to make it into a .22 Long Rifle again.

My Bisley has a Parker Hale liner and the rear sight has been changed way back in the day. These were target rifles when they were new and target shooters tend to make modifications to be more competetive. The thought that the guns may someday be collectable never enters their mind. Car guys have the same problem.

You have it.  The Bisleys were target rifles from the onset.  22 target barrels do not last forever.  If the Bisley were shot a lot, it might have lost its competitive edge after 4 or 5 years.  The P-H liner would have been a standard remedy, & should not detract from the rifle's interest or value to someone who understands what he is looking at.  Landis wrote about accurate barrel life back in the 1930s.

I was the one who found that Bisley that Slumlord has.  I suggested that owner Ken post it here and get the information on what it was and really worth.

Slumlord I have some parts that I acquired a year or two ago as Francottes spares.   They are not Francotte, the are Martini Henry pattern.   I suspect they are Greener small Martini.

Having never actually seen the rifle, please tell me what size the rifle is.  Is it cadet size or is it large martini size?

Could this pattern have been made by Greener for  Stevens?

It is the large Martini action. My guess has always been that Stevens may have bought actions and used their barrels and put their names on them. That could also explain the wide range of serial #s I have found so far. DoubleD, Thanks for refering Ken here and giving me the opportunity to own one of the most hard to find Stevens Rifles.

Hello slumlord44, DD, 40X, and waterman,
I was lucky enough to win the Bisley. It is in 218 Bee and sold for $365 + $30 sh/h. If it should not turn out to be accurate it will probably go back to the original .22 and I will keep you posted. Take care and God bless......cordell

The butplate on this one is different than the other ones I have seen so far. Is the Bisley name on the action on the right or left side of the frame? There are examples on both sides. Yours has the plain stock as does mine. They also came with a checkered stock. Still kicking myself for losing track of the auction on this one but happy that it went to somone who appreciates it and is active here. By me missing the boat, at least somone here got a real great deal.

Cordell:

What are the dimensions on that action (length, width, height)?
