The Forend screw is a Winchester anomaly. From Cambells book he shows it to be  .185 diameter with a 35.5 pitch. Now I suspect he is right as I over the years have made them at .185, .1875, and .190 and cut them at 36 pitch. No matter what I had to make them a somewhat loose thread fit in order to get them to screw into the escutchen. If you had access to a CNC lathe you could cut them at exactly 35.5. I have looked over every Lathe I have been able to access and never found one with  gearing that would cut 35.5 pitch.

Wisner's has the forearm screw for the early model 70 that is the right size thread. It might be a bit long for the 85. I have used the model 70 forearm stud for the 85 many time as well as on other rifles. The only difference I could see is the depth of the dovetail, the model 70 is about .070" and the 85 is closer to .100", both are 1/2" dovetail.

Kripes John why did I not think of that? Been screwing around with these for years and never thought about the M70 stuff. Thanks for the heads up. Regards, FITZ. Smiley
