Mike,

Holland and Holland are still in the gun making trade, I'm sure if you Google the name you will get a contact address. It's always better to ask the company. There's usually someone there who knows the history of the firm.

Wal Winfer's British Single Shot Rifles Volume 5, Holland and Holland will have all the Info you need.

Without some heavy reading and just looking at pictures, that appears to be a Holland and Woodward No. 3 action highest quality engraved in the best style with long finger take down.

Just skimming Winfer, he says first reference in H&H record to this action is 1899.

The book should be available from

I have Kirton's book on the British Falling Blocks and he has H&H ledger records printed that show production from about 1895 to 1926. Nice looking rifle.  By the picture, it looks like it's up for auction. Bob

The ledger numbers that Kirton shows has a gap right where this serial number falls. 24007 was made in 1905 while 24116 was made in 1912.  By that, you can see that there weren't many finished during this period.  Not all may have been this style falling block as H&H used Field's patent an Webly PD's as well. Many of these actions were not made by the builders themselves but were purchased from the mainland.  Maybe our friends Harry, Gert or Fred across the pond will chime in with better information. Winfer has 24078 listed, no date, .375 delivered to Lord Brook, then crossed out, Kemp added.

24077 was delivered 1900 and 24079 has no date.  The next sequential number listed No #3 action is 24114 delivered 1921, 24116 was delivered 1912.

Winfer notes that Serial numbers  from H&H up to 1919 were serialized with all their rifle and shotguns.
