Rodney Storie Action Castings available again?

Hello Gents,

I caught this advert in the Black Powder Cartridge News issue 70 for
Summer 2010.

BPCR ACTION SETS, BUTT -PLATES, DST, LEVERS: etc. for Wesson, D.S. Cole, Marlin Ballard, Farrow ‘84 and ’87, Hepburn, Win. 1885, Sharps ‘74 & ‘78, Jeffrey/Gibbs Farquharson, Rem. No.1 RB, many others. As available only. frontierarmory.com. For catalog and email: wes@frontierarmory.com or web: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). Call 405-794-9171 evening.

Given that this company supposedly went out of business or stopped trading in Jan 2009, I was wondering if anyone had been in contact with Wes Stanley and got a reply?  Undecided A different contact Email address is given on the website.

Harry

Talked to him a long time ago Harry. Didnt seem like he had any first hand knowledge about or experience with the kits or parts. I couldnt get any details from him. I was after a hammerless breech block for a Ballard frame. He said he had one copied from a Hubalek block.  All he knew was that a Ballard frame had to be machined to accept it. No details.
Sounded queersome to me so I never called back.
I just shot im an email, we'll see,,,,,,,,,,,,, Huh

Thanks replies guys.

I had heard that Storie was out of the casting business, so I wondered if someone had bought his moulds and was going to outlet them through Wes Stanley.

Joe, I'd appreciate it, if you would let us know if you get a reply from Wes. A few years back I tried several times to contact him by letter and phone, I never got a reply.

Harry

I talked to the Rifle shop in Jones OK and they have purchased all of the molds from this company. They do plan on putting them into production in the near future but are having different stories from the FEDS on legal issues. I have purchased parts from the rifle shop in the past and they are real nice quality at a reasonable price, so when they get around to it they should be high quality items at a reasonable price.

IIRC, about twenty years ago weren't they OTRR or something similar?
At that time they were doing Hepburns?
Wes and some of that crew were at Quigley in 2007 or 2008 and one of them shot the 1897 Webley kit they had at the match.  I hope they succeed.

Hello Mike T,

I agree, it is great news that these castings are going to be available again, and hopefully on an 'off the shelf' basis, rather than having to spend weeks just trying to contact the distributor.

As long as purchasers of these kits realise there is a considerable amount of machining required to be able to put these kits together, then the new company producing them should do well.

If you haven't got a small machine shop with at least a mill and a lathe, then hopefully you know a gunsmith who likes working for the love of it, rather than simply the pay.  Roll Eyes

well, my gunsmith is going to be eighty shortly, semi-retired and just does things that interest him for old customers.  About the same temperament  as HM in his prime.  This gentleman can do things with a file in an hour or two that most modern machine shops can't accomplish with a couple million dollars worth of CNC machinery in a week.

He is building me one of the Ondrus Wickliffe kits into a heavy LR rifle in 45-120, and the Steve Earle Wesson is next.

Yes, I am a lucky man...
