Double set problems

I have a SHiloh that requires extreme pressure to set the trigger. When I remove the trigger bar from the rifle it works quite easily. I do not think there is any wood contact. Could it be that the triggers fit too close to the sear lever on the lock? Any other ideas that might cure my problem?

Never had much luck with them...

Any gunsmith types have an idea why the triggers might be binding?

Take the lock out and try the triggers.  If it still binds, you've got interference in the stock.  If not, you've got sear or lock problems.

Always remember the first rule of gunsmithing...always work on/replace/check the cheapest, most easily replaced parts first.   Grin

SS, I agree with David. I have seen this problem on several ocasions and  find bind somewhere.  But aside from wood bind, check for interference of the front trigger bar against the sear bar as the set draws down. The rear lever has to move the front slightly to cock. It doesn't take much additional pressure on the front by the sear to create the bind you've described. A very slight pass with a stone or fine file on the front lever is generally enough. Hope this helps some.

I took the gun apart last night and discovered the stock had a crack that also explained the really poor fit of the stock to the reciever. I did a temporary repair using super glue just to see if I could do something with the trigger. I'll do a permanent repair with acra-glas later. Anyway, I still needed to take a few passes off the triggers with a file and it is now improved a bit. Think I can proably make it better still after the acra-glass.
