Hello CCM,

A very interesting article, but perhaps you shouldn't have brought it to our attention. I'm an old guy myself and I wouldn't like to be buried under the orders for barrels that this gentleman will now receive.

It's nice to know that the older arts of barrel making are still being practiced.

   Hello Harry:

The next time you travel to America, please allow some time to be in Pennsylvania.  I live 10 miles from a second generation barrel maker who does only single point cut rifling, including gain twist, and we'll have to drive out to see him and have lunch in the near by village.

Best wishes from a Geordie in America

Webb

P.S.  I'll have to get over to see my cousins soon !

Here is Ron's mail address and the telephone area code is 403 not 780.

Ron Smith
P.O. Box 635
Wimborne, Alberta
T0M 2G0
403-631-2405

Also Ron's barrel diameter is tapered down so it gets tighter to the muzzle which prevents gas cutting and improves the accuracy.

Twenty years ago, when Ron and I first met at the Coors shoot at Wounded Knee he was buried with orders.

Good article, Bob did a great job on the story about Ron.
Ive been in his shop and a friend for over 40 yrs and Bob got a lot of details in the article that most wouldn't catch just watching Ron at work.
I'm off to his shop tomorrow to spend a few days there before we head to Raton.

Anybody got an ATF 6 to import one of these barrels lately.  Is ATF still being liberal with these?

Good luck Tom and Sylvia on your trip to Raton. Buy up all the Millers for sale before Rob sees them.

Now be easy on Ron's granddaughter's finacee. Break him in gentle.

I see Colleen has not been to Raton since before 2001. Still betting she will place in the top three at least.
