Still looking for a picture of a Lyman 104 patridge front sight for my Stevens 418.  Just learned that this sight was also the used on the 416-2 rifle from 1932 to 1948.
Anyone out there have one, and could they take a picture of the front sight for me?  Trying to get a picture so I could recognize one by sight as many of the older sights didn't seem to have the model number stamped on them.

yes, absolutely sure about the number--I actually have two pieces of literature that mention the part number as a 104, but only one has a picture and that one is not clear.
The sight reference books also describe it as part # 104 so that's 3 different references that describe it as a 104.
The 4 sight collectors I have contacted also had heard of it and  2 knew what it was as well--just that they don't have one (or don't want to part with one if they do!

I'd say so--I'll do some checking.  I think the key will be the height.  Trying to judge by how high it would need to be.  Right now, the gun sights well with a Lyman 17A AUG, which is .584 high from bottom of dovetail to top of lollipop insert.  The rear Lyman 48L crossbar is about 3/16 above the top of the reciever and a Lyman 144L tang sight has to be near, but not quite at the bottom of it's travel, so I'm thinking the front sight has to be pretty tall, as is the one in your pic.

I actually just picked up a sight on eBay that is a patridge from a Stevens target rifle (so the seller said) but it is only 3/8" tall.  But haven't checked if it will work--still haven't done my ammo test yet and don't want to take the 17A off until I do (hopefully next wk or so)

Looks like there were a few patridge style sights on old Stevens--just have to get the right one!
