GCurtis,
I just read your post. My B78 was made in 1972 by Miroku. My local gunsmith advised me that there was a Canjar trigger in my rifle. Interestingly, It's different from yours! My trigger is a solid blade! It does have a circle on one side with the letter CHJ in it.
After reading your post I tried pushing my trigger blade forward and then pull back the hammer and it worked! No fiddling with the hammer,

I tried a few more times. Think it could be tuned a bit, but I think you have me on to something...
It is my understanding there was only one canjar trigger for the b78. I also read that Browning 1885 does not have an aftermarket replacement. But I've heard of $25 - $35 trigger job a done by lee shavers but dont know who he is.
I did managed to track down a guy that said he had the original canjar instructions for the b78. But he sold off that gun and subsequently aquired several other b78 including another with a canjar trigger. Don't know if the b78 trigger's had a solid blade or like yours.
I have seen a trigger similar to the one you described with a small lever that would protrude after the trigger was pushed forward. It was in a Ruger m77 (bolt) in 243. It was part of the same estate where I picked my rifle. Now I'm really confused.
I also read canjar model numbers are stamped on the trigger assembies and are not visible once installed.
I emailed the ASSRA archivist and requested the service manual for the b78. I saw a photo published in a book with a canjar installed in a b78. It was profile so I cant say if it had the set trigger you described or one like mine.
Thanks for the tip. I'm really curious now and feel much better about my 25-06. Thanks for taking the time.
