Browning B78 w/Canjar Trigger

I have found several threads discussing the B78's trigger and hammer.

One of these threads stated the ASSRA's Archivist has a service manual for Browning B78, how can I get copy of it?

In another thread I ran across two member discussing the Canjar Trigger and "installation instructions for a B78". Are they still available?

My B78 made in 2506 back in 1972.  It seems to be having the same trigger and hammer safety lock adjustment issues to the ASSRA thread:

I found another reference on another site discussing adjustment solutions for the b78 and was wondering if anyone could verify the proccedure identified in post #12 in:

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

I am looking for information on B78 with Canjar triggers. Trigger adjustment tips/literature and adjustments/fixes to cure my perhaps broken/unadjusted "Hammer Lock Safety"

I've been to two smiths unfortuantely neither knows how to fix/adjust the hammer lock safety on my gun. Would really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance.

The Canjar single set trigger for the B78 is long out of production. I have a rifle that I purchased years ago with the Canjar trigger on it already and it is very nice. I think currently the trigger is worth more than the rifle. I have to fend off sales offers every time it is taken to the range.

I heard a rumor that MVA was going to make a SS trigger for the latest crop of Miroku rifles but is has so far proven unfounded. Sad

I'll be glad when I get the bugs worked out. That's good news about the canjar Trigger being worth some money Grin. My B78 is in 2506. It's has factory rings with variable Leupold scope. Mine is in great shape after 40 years. It was set up for the range, I had the trigger adjusted for hunting and it was a bad idea. Cry

I heard the B78 being offered by Browning as a gunshow special. The 2010 model has 24" barrels and list at $1399. I have no idea what my gun is worth, I've never seen on one gunbroker no less with my trigger scope combo.

I really must know, Does your hammer "Lock" "Work"? Or was/is that a trade off target shooters sacrificed for a sweeter trigger? My assumption is "of course it does". Kindly get back to me on that point will you! Undecided

I'm looking for a field manual for b78 and instructions on the Canjar SST that's in my rifle. Would you know if SST is the model or is imply shorthand for "S"ingle "S"tage "T"rigger. Would you know the specific Canjar model number for the b78? I heard it's stamped on the trigger assembly but that is currently tucked back into the receiver...

fsThanks in advance

My hammer lock does work. From my understanding it is not part of the trigger group. The hammer will not fall on the firing pin unless the hammer is falling at full speed.

My trigger is a single set trigger. It must be pushed forward to set it at which time a small lever protrudes forward from the trigger that is a hair trigger. I do not know the canjar model number.

It is also my understanding that the triggers on the browning/miroku B78 is different from the winchester/miroku high wall although that may have changed for the recent production runs. TexasMac will know the answer to that one.

Good luck with your rifle repair. Mine was originally a 6mm Remington with scope rings and such. It is now a 40-65 with a Badger barrel and MVA long range peep sights.

GCurtis,

I just read your post. My B78 was made in 1972 by Miroku. My local gunsmith advised me that there was a Canjar trigger in my rifle. Interestingly, It's different from yours! My trigger is a solid blade! It does have a circle on one side with the letter CHJ in it.

After reading your post I tried pushing my trigger blade forward and then pull back the hammer and it worked!  No fiddling with the hammer, Shocked I tried a few more times. Think it could be tuned a bit, but I think you have me on to something... Grin

It is my understanding there was only one canjar trigger for the b78. I also read that Browning 1885 does not have an aftermarket replacement. But I've heard of $25 - $35 trigger job a done by lee shavers but dont know who he is.

I did managed to track down a guy that said he had the original canjar instructions for the b78. But he sold off that gun and subsequently aquired several other b78 including another with a canjar trigger. Don't know if the b78 trigger's had a solid blade or like yours. Undecided

I have seen a trigger similar to the one you described with a small lever that would protrude after the trigger was pushed forward. It was in a Ruger m77 (bolt) in 243. It was part of the same estate where I picked my rifle. Now I'm really confused.

I also read canjar model numbers are stamped on the trigger assembies and are not visible once installed.

I emailed the ASSRA archivist and requested the service manual for the b78. I saw a photo published in a book with a canjar installed in a b78. It was profile so I cant say if it had the set trigger you described or one like mine.

Thanks for the tip. I'm really curious now and feel much better about my 25-06. Thanks for taking the time. Smiley

Anybody else have something to share?
