Recoil could be an issue with some sights. .458 will kill and bury groundhog in one shot. I had a tropical that was a tack driver.

Recoil IS a consideration (in design) - I do like the 485gr bullets too.  At 100 yds it would do WELL for both PD's and woodchucks.

with recoil you have to remember that any extension can give real leverage to move an unsupported weight (like a steel sight) around.  I've seen long rear extensions clamped to a rear sight block used to support a redfield sight back about where a tang sight would be.  Fine on small bore and low-recoil target cartridges/load.s 

On a big boomer I'd want my sight extension securely moored to BOTH of the sight blocks for security.

Ah! The Australian Central sight. A good one indeed! My Ruger #3 sports a Super Central sight. My Grunig and Elmiger Palma rifle also sports a central.
