Making new nickle plate look old

I had the double pronged butt plate on my low wall nickle plated about 6 years ago. It was bright and shiney like chrome plating. The problem is, it still is! I was hoping it would start to dull and look older, but it doesn't seem to change. Any suggestions?
Who does nickle plating appropriate to these old single shots?

Don't know if it is true or not but I was told once that Vinegar would dull Nickel finishes, I never tried it though. You might test a few substances on the underside to see if they work like you want them to.

have you searched the archive yet?  I seem to recall a discussion "some" time back about contemporary nickel-plate compared to the appearance of the vintage plate--and possibly some one who does the vintage-appearing type.

I Tried, all that seems to come up is this posting. I tried "nickle plating" and just the word "nickle"
Hmm, now this reply will show up also!

Irascible,

Do your search using the other spelling - e.g. "nickel" , and you'll get the earlier posts, but they all seem to reference re-plating.

Re plating seems like a viable option if you find the shiny stuff unpleasant. Smiley

I've had some buttplates nickeled & a couple of levers, & to lose the chrome plated look, I rub them down with fine Scotchbrite pads.  Not perfect, but alot better.        ...MIKE...
