1927 Rifle Team

Here's a photo of the 1927 Central High School Rifle team (DC). My wife's aunt was on the team and in the photo. Below is her Stevens 414 which she gave to me about 30 years ago. Its great to connect the rifle with its history.

Love it!  Babes with guns...(no offense, merhere!)  Imagine the howl today if you wanted to start up a rifle team at a high school...and in DC, to boot!  Any other memorabilia from Aunt Betsy's shooting days?

That's a neat picture mehere!

No offense taken. I'm with ya. I would like to know the stories of some of The others on the team. Impressive group of ladies if you ask me.

I also have a medal she won on the team. I really enjoyed talking with her about it. It was a an important time for her.

Great photo and history of the gun. I believe the US Olympic Team won the 1912 Olympics using this rifle. My long rifel version is deadly accurate.

It's so quiet, too. You can hear the bullet hit the target.

If you were to glance along the line of high school girls, circa 1927, in the photograph posted, you will not find one who is above "normal body weight; however, if you were to see a similar photo from year 2010 of a high school team you would most likely fine that 40 % are medically classified as obese.

Not only has our culture turned away from firearms, but it has turned children on to high sugar and fat content food stuff in enormous quantities.

My point being, that firearms, marksmanship and the NRA are not as deleterious to our young people as are the mass marketeers at McDonald, Wendy's, Frito-Lay, and Mars Bars.

Really cool pic and quite an aunt.  You are a lucky man.

I think G Gordon Liddy has something to do with an annual calendar featuring young women in various tasteful states of undress with firearms.

In regards to Walmart, you don't have to go there, just go to peopleofwalmart.com.  At our local Walmart they must have 20 of those scooter carts and on Saturday morning it is down right dangerous.  Think of the momentum involved when a electric cart with its 400# operator and a basket of God know what comes barreling down the cookie isle.  Shocked

If you look at one of the first pages (p. 6?) of Crossman's book on smallbore rifle shooting, there is another pic of the Central HS girls' rifle team.  In that photo it looks as if they all have Winders.  Is Aunt Betsy in that photo?

That's interesting. I don't have the book so i don't know if it is from the time she was there or not.
