mrballardman   Go to Amoskeag auction March 2010 item # 109 for a good example of a # 51. Item #40 is said to be a # 51 but is prob. a # 54. Both are very similar.  Good luck on your project.

Ed,

Go here:

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Click on page 4 and then click on the two different photos of the #51. Then you'll see more photos of each in the gallery.

Good luck on your restoration!

Leon,

She's downright gorgeous!

Just curious, but what is the barrel length and # weight, and the caliber?

Regards,
BP

P.S. - Never mind, I made the connection. This "oldtimers" thing can be a bear at times.  Grin

Hi,
Glad you figgered it out.  In case anyone else is curious, it is a 32-40, 32 inch barrel, weighing 12 pounds without scope or palm rest.  Never was cut for a front sight. I added the rear sight base to use as an anchor for a mechanical breech seater for these rare days when  I get brave enough to take it out of the safe to the range.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Here's my Stevens with special order barrel that is 32" long and also has no rear sight dovetail. Also with 438 scope and H tang sight. Loop lever and caliber is .25-21 Stevens. Nickeled brass buttplate. Vall

Vall,

Really nice!

Is it one of the early 52 Jr's before they changed the grip style? Butt plate looks heavier than what you would usually see on a 49.
