Fitting CPA barrel to another CPA 44-1/2 action (Read 3076 times)

	Can anyone tell me what the chances are that a CPA Stevens 44 1/2 barrel will simply screw onto a different CPA Stevens 44 1/2 action and line up correctly? I have heard that there is some gunsmithing involved. Can someone tell me how much work is involved...... cutting threads? rechamber?Headspace? Does anyone here do this kind of work? Thank you very much. Chris

	You can call Paul or Gail and they should be able to tell you by serial number if your action was made after they started to thread them to index. If made prior to that each barrel needs to fit and the amount can vary from just a touch on the barrel shoulder to lots of work. You will need to try the barrel i question to the action to see how much work is needed. It is much like fitting Ballard barrels it takes lots of luck to find one that fits. Cheers, Laurie

	I think you will need to give Paul Shuttleworth two serial numbers, first from the action from which the subject barrel was removed (the Donor action), plus the serial number from the action to which the barrel will be installed (the Donee action). Creedmoormatch

	I have sold two barrels off my CPA actions to other ASSRA members and they indexed fine to the new actions. I think it depends, on when the gun was built. Boats
