The forum often has questions regarding relining existing barrels in order to restore the original rifling or to convert to a different caliber.

For anyone in the Eastern states, there is a course being offered at the Montgomery Community College on August 9 th to 13 th located in Troy, North Carolina that instructs on barrel relining.

I have heard a lot of great things about the "Metalsmithing the Single Shot Falling Block Rifle" course at Trinidad State College in CO. Wink

Harry:

Pack up that Borchardt, bring in on over and we will finish it up in style!

What else you got to do in June?

Harry,

Do it - at least you'll be able to keep him on the right track.  Otherwise he might just be messing around with Hepburns and RB's... Wink

Gert,

I'd love to go, but I do note that, at last, our bold gunsmith Glenn has realised that there are superb single shot actions that originated in England or at least Britain. Glenn has already done one rifle build (a Farky) and is dying to get his hands on a Fraser or at least make a copy of one.

I have a standing invitation from a Californian Internet Buddy to go over and take part in the Long Range competitions at Ratton. I'm hoping to get there next year (the Grim Reaper and volcanic dust permitting). lol.

Harry,

I was planning to go to the 2010 World Championships, but the (US) NRA decided otherwise...  Still planning to go across the pond with a rifle, maybe next year, for some sinfully good shooting.

Harry:

I already have the Fraser action. Just waiting for the Gibbs to sell or a commision to built the Fraser.

Fact of the matter is I do prefer the British actions, but they are not exactly thick on the ground in these parts. Y'all might bring some over for me when you come.

Ya' know, the Gunsmithing School at Trinidad is only 25 miles away from the Whittington Center where the National's are held. As long as you are coming all this way, whats another 25 miles?

Gert, we could find room for you as well...

Hello Glenn,

Have you thought of getting someone to do 'reverse' engineering drawings of the Fraser Action using CAD. There may be a lucrative sideline for you in selling engineering drawings of this and other British single shot actions. Plans are simply not available anywhere for British SS Actions. I'd certainly buy a set of drawings and I'm sure many others would as well.

British SS Actions may be scarce in the USA but they're even rarer over here, as you Americans, and Wal Winfer in Australia seem to have snaffled most of the surviving examples over the years.  Grin

I didn't make the East Coast course last week, but I was interested in hearing from anyone who was enrolled.  How would you rate the course over-all ?  What would you say was the highlight of the course for you ?

Would you recommend it to others based on your personal experience?

Thanks for your feed back on the course.
