Bill Loos, a book seller at many of the larger Gun shows. I have one and it  is a very good replication. However it will not seat these way oversize very hard cast bullets used by many today. It is not of robust strength. It was designed for bullets that fit the throat and were cast very soft. HTH, Regards, FITZ. Smiley

+! to Brother FITZ's comments on their lack of robustitude and ability to seat large bullets.  I even have one that was custom made for me that is  scaled up about 3X normal size or more, and I still have a hard time getting enough ooomph on it to seat any but a very soft, close to throat size bullet.  My original looks good in the display of loading stuff, but it never gets used with a rifle.

Got a contact for Bill Loos? I'm looking for one to work with a Martini stalking rifle in 8.15 with a tight bore and for another to work with a Low Wall in 25-20 Repeater.  I have one of Willis' seaters, but the tang sight on the wall and the marginal grabbing of the seater's lug makes it hard to use.  I thought I could push a 25 cal bullet hard enough.  It's a pretty small bullet.

I have one of Bills Ideal repros and it is a near deads ringer. The knurled ring is different, slightly, as is the wood handle. But only slightly.

I use iton a 44.5 and itis in 38-55 cal. I can push some of my bullets and a couple that I have borrowed from others. They are all of the Pope tapered design. I have two or three other bullets that it is ano go on hand seating.

So I guess I am seconding what is stated above, with the right bullet and mix, it works. A little too big and forget it!

It is a very good repro and he will sell you the plug stem and a guide case in other cartridges at a fair price.

Like Fitz, somewhere in my crap I have his card. Can't say I will ever see it again! He is always at the Baltimore gunshow in March.

I am sure someone will have the info way before that.

Merwin

BTW, I plan on gettin the 25-20SS stem from him for my Maynard, but already am prepared for it to be too hard to push the 2 different bullets I have. I can hope though!

I read somewhere that the small Ideal seaters were made to seat paper patched bullets. That would make sense since they were shot at bore diameter and would be very easy to seat. These seaters were especially useful in seating bullets with Chase style patches. (Once around the bullet and cut square/not diagonal)

That would make sense. I have never shot paper patch to speak of. But the tappered bullets I use, Hoch, end up that I am only pushing in the last two bands, for the most part. I think by changing temper of alloy mix the bullet could be made a little bigger or smaller, just a tad.

One day I will get a mechanical seater.
