Did they make single shot rifles?  They did make a very unique break open singleshot shotgun. It looks like any other SSSG but to open it you had to pull the trigger all the way back. It had a hammer so one had to make sure it wasnt cocked before opening. I've only seen two of these in my whole put together. One was a relic the other I should have took home. It was only forty bucks.

IJ offered a .50 BMG singleshot that was way ahead of its time. Not legal for SS matches though, it was a bolt action rifle.

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton, Alberta has parts for the Iver Johnson stuff. Was able to get replacement parts for a  two barrel shotgun. It was worth restoring since it had a beautiful case hardened receiver.

Top of the line were the Skeeters - side by side skeet guns. They were made in all the guages & many variations - straight & PG stocks, double & single triggers - but all were top notch guns. A friend has a pair of 410 skeeters that are simply gorgeous! The chokes on one are normal, but the on the other are reversed (open on the left, tight on the right). To bad the manufacturers today can't operate on the "what would you like, Sir?" business model.

Hi creedmoormatch !!!

I remember back in the sixties, I passed on a .410 Skeeter for 100.00 !!!  8>((  Can’t find one now and if you do, its over four figures..

I collect the “break-open” revolvers and restore them because their inexpensive and pretty interchangeable.. Everything from .22 to .38 with 1” to 7” barrels… I also enjoy their single shot “Champion’s” in all gauges..  About twenty revolvers and four shotguns.
Also associated is the U.S. Revolver Co., also with interchangeable parts..

What’s the purpose of your post ???

Red Wing . . . I have just gotten interested in the person, Iver Johnson, as well as his various companies (some of which were partnerships with Mr. Bye) and their firearms products as opposed to their bicycle lines.

I know there is a publication written by a Bill Goforth, but have not had the benefit of reading it just yet.  My first acquisition is a "safety hammer automatic revolver" break top, and somewhat unusual, since it is a 38 S&W with a 6 inch barrel and with large black composition flat bottom grip panels.  The two grip panels have two thru screws and completely enclose the metal grip frame.

Would you happen to know if a Model Three cylinder will interchange with a Model Two cylinder ?

Hey CMM:

AFAIC, IJ & O. Mossberg were pioneers for new concept’s in the firearms industry..
They both got the reputation for producing “cheap” guns but today more and more collectors (like me) seek them out as a part of American history…

I don’t have any technical information other than model drawings but I can tell you that on the “safety hammer”, the .32 frame will interchange with the .38 barrel and cylinder.. Just check the lock-up and cylinder clocking before firing… I load my own 38 S&W with a few gr. of Red Dot and round ball and have a good time plunking with it…A real western pistol

Here’s a pic. Of my “86” Safety Hammer in .38 along with an original 1873 Springfield (for the Trapdoor) 45-70 capper/de-capper tool. … (click on the pic.)

Let me know if you need any parts…

Ed….
