Bought this yesterday and now am trying to ID maker and age. It's in beautiful condition missing ram rod and palm support. Locle is in Switzerland not far from the French border, but that's a far as I've gotten. Any help or directions appreciated. I need to place a value on this for insurance too. More pictures available but didn't want to overwhelm this post.

Wow! Go ahead and overwhelm all you want.   Roll Eyes

Will the value be what you paid for it?

As to value - I'm thinking it might be worth more than I paid as a collectors item.

It has an interesting trigger guard that has a hook on the forward end and a thumb screw on the back tang. The thumb screw going into the side plate screws into the lock plate holding the lock in.

Except for teh side plate and horn nose cap it's all iron mounted.

I'd guess for a Euopean percussion piece you'd probably be good for insurance purposes somewhere in the $1200-$1500 range IMHO.

I had one by the same maker long ago and the usual question was " whats the key on the side for?' obviously for easy lock removal. I finally just said it wound the mainspring!
Beautiful rifle.

Palm rests were pretty much an American innovation...the lug ahead of the triggerguard is probably for a hook type sling swivel.  Should be another on one of the ramrod pipes.
