My new Stevens little boy's gun (mod.14)

Those of you who collect Stevens little boy's guns will appreciate how I feel at getting a mod. 14 Little Scout.  After some years of waiting for my chance at one, I have finally scored.  The mod. 14 is about second in line of rarity after the Sure Shot.  It's a long story as to how I came by this one but at least this story has a happy ending.  This example of the 14 is just an honest little gun showing its years, but its in really good shape the only bad thing about it is that its missing the front sight.  I have made sights like this one before using a piece of an old silver spoon or fork.  You can't tell the difference from the original.  If I knew how to post pictures here, I would share it with you.  This is a great hobby isn't it?

Powderhead,
With me it's all about Favorites. I had the same feeling when I found my first sideplate gun (first model favorite), and then when I found a mint second model. Then there was the one in the factory case....

I guess you never get over the feeling. May you feel it many times over.

Congrats,
Ron

Congratulations. Great find! I have never seen a 14 yet. This one is still on my want list. Dumbest thing I ever did several years back was pass on a Sure Shot because it was in poor condition even though the price was right. I knew it was rare but didn't know HOW rare at the time. Live and learn. Yes this is a great hobby!

I really like the little Stevens rifles but I don't know alot about them.
What is the difference between a 14 and a 14 1/2 model?

The 14 can easily be confused with the Junior.  They do look very similar.  The mod. 14 1/2 looks entirely different.  Why, I don't know, but that's they way it seems to be with some of the evolution of Stevens  boy's guns.  The Junior and the 14 have a plain 1x board stock - very simple.  The Junior doesn't have a butt plate and the 14 does.  If I new how to post pics I would show the differences in the three.

RJM,  I do consider the Favorites to be boy's guns too and the side plate model is rare, but I do see them from time to time.  I don't have one mainly due to the 7 -8 hundred entry level cost.  I just seem to be drawn to these little 24 ounce models.

Question from a forum newbie! What do you Stevens collectors know and can tell me about a Stevens Bisley, .22LR target rifle. Just saw my first one. I have mainly Ballards, but this looks interesting. Thanks guys.

I wonder if you saw the same Steven's Bisley Model I saw?

Martini action?

Anybody know anything about these?

Yes, it had the Martini action and was at the Kull auction. Went for $1,050. Good looking 22 and I couldn't find any information in the books on it. Even goggled it.

how true all your excitement is ! .. I started collecting Stevens boys rifle back in the 1970's ... had a whack of them , but all average or less condition ... then I bought a large frame 441/2 and out for sale were the l'il boys rifles , including a side-plate & sure-shot ! ! ...

as we age a bit more , the thoughts of being a "boy" again emerged .. the bug to seach & find a few Stevens boys rifles attacked me , and vwala I now have 3 super 95% condition case-hardened colored action models : one 14 1/2 Little Scout & two favorites ...

now if I can only find one that in its hard shell case !!!   the hunt continues ...
