Quackenbush collectors? (updated)

Are there any Quackenbush collectors in here?  There is an auction coming up in my area that has 15 of them listed.  I am wondering about current values of the Junior Safety rifle with the wire stock.  They will also have a couple Hamilton # 7's, a mod. 43, and a mod. 15.  I only have one Quackenbush, but I really think they are interesting guns, and I wouldn't mind having another.

Well, the auction I referred to was yesterday 7/11, and for a thousand dollars you could have bought a beginners Quackenbush collection.  Of the 15 pieces, some sold for as little as $60, tops was about $250.  I forgot!  the exception to that was a Quack. pellet rifle that went for about $650.  Rare Hamilton #7's  sold in the $250 range.  The problem with these was the quality.  Parts missing, reblues, cracked stocks, poor finish, etc..  I am happy with the Quack. I got for $170.  It's missing about $30 worth of parts, but it's all original and a good looker about %75 overall.  I think it would have sold for 5 to 600 anywhere else.  The common thing I heard around the auction was that many of these men had never heard of Quackenbush.  Sad isn't it.  If it had not been for one collector who bought about 10 of these, prices would have been well under a $100.
Well I see that there's know need for a Quackenbush forum here.   Grin

This verifies what I have always said, if you are in the right place at the right time with cash in hand, there are deals to be made. The best deals I have found on a variaty of things were when no one else there knew what things were worth. Knowledge is power!

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I've gotten my best auction gun finds at auctions of non-gun items. Went to a antique clock auction and sat through about 3 1/2 hours of clocks, just to bid on a Ballard Pacific.
The auction program listed it as a "Marlin Muzzleloader" because of the thimbles for the wiping rod. They started the bidding at $800 and nobody even bid! Kept dropping the price until it got to $200, and finally someone else bid on it. I countered all the way back to $420, and the second bidder finally dropped out.
It waas missing the sights and the wiping rod, but a beautiful speciment otherwise.
