Got lucky on another Stevens! Maybe

Several weeks ago I bid on what was listed as a "Stevens Crack Shot" parts gun on one of the on-line auctions.  The picture was very grainy, but the description was enough for me to bid.  I was looking for some parts to get another Crack Shot up and running.  It listed the caliber and stated that the gun would make a parts gun or wall hanger.  I waited a long time for the guy to send it.  I even emailed him once asking him if he had received my payment and what the hold up was.
Well, Sat. I got the package, and much to my surprise and confusion it contained a "Marksman" in .25 cal..  I got back online and checked out the picture again posted on the auction.  How I missed it I'll never know, but it was a picture of a Marksman.  Turns out it has a very good ++ bore, about 75% blue, good wood with no splits or major dings just flaky varnish.  I assume by the way the guy broke it down for shipping (he removed the three screws in the lever and extractor linkage instead of the take-down screw) that he just didn't know what it was, or much about it, and guessed it was a Crack Shot.  It says Marksman on the receiver!!  I have emailed him to see if he made a mistake and sent the wrong gun even though it is the one in the picture.  I haven't heard anything back yet.  A Franklin and some change got it to the door.

Sounds like you got a deal. I have been looking for a Marksman in .25. Got a .22 and a .32. Sometimes auction pruchases end up better than you think they will. Sometimes they are worse. Sounda like you came out ahead on this one.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I've experienced extremes in both! Believe me, it's much nicer when they come out with good surprises!

Yes, unless the guy writes back and says there's been a big mistake, and I don't think that's going to happen, I feel pretty lucky with the deal.  What I would be looking for now is a Marksman in .22 shot.  I currently have a .22, .32, and .25.  I also have the model 101, which is considered a completely different gun by some.  However, the 101 is nothing more than a Marksman in .44 shot with a 26  inch barrel.  It just doesn't say Marksman on it.

Question on the .44 Shot? Is this a centerfire and what can you use for brass? See these for sale occasionaly but the starting prices are on the high side.

Use the 44/40 brass, speer .44 cal. shot cups, and load black powder.  I'll see if I can find an article I read somewhere on reloading for this.

Here it is.  I don't know much about linking, so see if this works.

Thanks for the good info. Now all I need is to find a decent gun for a fair price. One on Gunbroker with $400 minimm bid. Seems a little steep to me but I may be thinking too low on price.
