Hello fellow collectors...

Well, I finally found a web site for collecting single shot rifles.  I have been looking for such a forum as this one for a long time.  I discovered this place through a link at "rimfire central."
I have a poor mans collection of Stevens boys' rifles.  I have some junk, but I also have a few real nice pieces.  The center piece of my collection is a Stevens "Sure Shot."  Even though the bore is shot out, and it is a little loose it is all there and it's in pretty decent shape.  Maybe someday I'll post some pictures of it.
The model 16 is one of my favorites since I believe that model is the first firearm I ever held as a three or four year old boy.  I have that little Crack Shot still.  The man whom it belonged to gave it to me many years ago after I grew to manhood.  Today I have four of the little model 16's, and I have my eyes on another real beauty.
Beyond that I have a mix of Favorites, Crack Shots, (both models), Little Krag, 14 1/2, Little Scouts, Juniors, etc., etc.  The one I have my eye out for is the model 14, but I am told they are as scarce as Sure Shots.
I have been a single shot shooter all of my life, as I shoot left handed bolt guns just didn't work well for me.  My deer and elk rifles are Ruger # 1's.
I am looking forward to good discussion and information sharing with you folks.  I am especially eager to find a source for parts for some of the rifles I have that need work.

Welcome aboard, Powderhead.  Pull up a virtual cracker barrel, prop your feet up against the virtual woodstove, and jump in when you want.  There are a bunch of Stevens lovers here and Ruger #1s are pretty well represented too.

Regards,
Green Frog

Welcome from another Stevens nut. Congratulations on the Sure Shot. I passed on one of these several years back for $150 because it was in poor condition. Gun was prety well complete. Still kicking mysef in the backside. I knew they were rare, but did not know HOW rare! Your Crackshot story is almost identical to mine. Family friend who my dad bought the farm from that I still live on had one sitting on his back porch when I was a kid. I finaly talked him out of it. Bore was shot and I eventualy had it relined. Still have it and will never sell it. I quit counting at 100 Stevens guns. Darn things are adictive. Still buying and looking. You will like this website. I highly recomend joining the ASSRA and also subscribing to the Single Shot Exchange Magazine. This is the first site I check after my email. RimfireCentral is also a favorite of mine. Feel free to ask questions and chime in with your opinions and info. Great bunch of people here.

       Hello There Mr. Powder-Head:

I'ld like to join in with my above colleagues in Welcoming you to our fine organization which focuses on the American and European Single Shot rifles.

I particularly look forward to having you share with us your knowledge concerning the J. Stevens Arms product lines.  You can expect to receive the same from our many "Forum" participants who know about and shoot the J. Stevens rifles.

Recently, there has been a move among us to assess whether or not it would be feasible to start an organization of people who  specifically collect J.Stevens firearms.  It would be, in all likelihood, much similar to the "Remington Society".  Nothing formally has taken place on this project as yet, but we would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject

It was great to meet you and hope to see you on the Forum soon again.

              Best regards,

              Creedmoormatch

Welcome Mr Powder-Head! Please do join the ASSRA. The magazine is well worth the admission price. Although I don't currently do much with Stevens, I do tinker with Rugers and BSA Martini's .

Hi Powderhead.

I like Stevens rifles too. I like the larger models. I really really like my Walnut Hill heavy. I've really really kicked some butt with that rifle.

Three pound trigger and a barrel band just the way it came from the factory.  It shoots like a suped up wildcat on steroids!   Shocked
