This somewhat modified 418 has been on GunsAmericia for quite a while and I got tired of looking at it and bought it. He finaly took $575 + $25 shipping. Won't know if it is too much until I get my hands on it next week. Near as I can tell the stock has not been cut, just a spacer added with the original butplate on it. Should be no problem to remove the spacer. The cap on the pistol grip is another matter. If it is merely glued on, should be no problem to remove and touch up the finish. If  it is screwed on there will be a hole to fill which is not the end of the world. I am prety sure the tang sight is the original Lyman 144. It definately has the windage adjustment. Case on the frame is decent but the blueing on the barrel is not the best.
Went to the gun show in St. Charles Mo today. Had to stand outside in the rain in line for 30 minutes to get in. Extremely crowded. So what do I find? A Stevens 418 1/2 in .25 Stevens Rimfire. Mint bore. Very good wood. Excelent case on the recieiver and good blueing on barrel. Original Lyman #2 tang sight missing the aperature. Sling swivals missing. Action extremely tight and crisp. Has a current production Lyman flip up open rear sight in the dovetail that is not correct. For $600 I could not convince myself to walk away so I bought it also. A week ago I had never seen a 418 and now I have two.
