Is there a gunsmith currently modifying Ballard's to shorten hammer fall, lighter hammer, etc.

Dave Arawinko was doing a standardized version of the Creighton Audette design several years ago.  He'd be the first one I would check with.  I'm not in touch with him (but need to be) but maybe somebody else could help you find him.

I spoke to Dave and he said he is in the process of getting parts together so is not ready at this time to say for sure when athey will be done. He does lurk here from time to time.

Perhaps these are hard to find because of safety concerns.  When I asked Ballard R&C (Cody incarnation) about having a speed hammer added to my silhouette rifle, they declined.  Said it was over liability concerns, although I know that they did do them for some customers previously. YMMV.

Dick,

Now that I know (at least second hand) that Dave plans to resume production of his speed lock assembly for the Ballard, I will say that I have examined his prototypes that he brought to Etna Green several years ago and was most favorably impressed with them.  IIRC, he had developed a CNC program to make each of the new pieces and essentially put a new action in the customer's block.  The result was a slick working self cocking unit (necessary because of the stronger spring and smaller hammer) that could be expected to give much faster lock time and improve on the Ballard's already good trigger pull.  This was a single trigger set-up, so none of the additional levers and springs of a DST were needed, and it could be accomplished on standard blocks.  Again, IIRC, the original block was little changed except for the addition of one new hole(??)  I don't know how soon they will be available, but if you can get one in the time you need it, I would highly recommend it.

Regards,
Froggie
