Is there a following for the Savage 219 rifle? I have had a number of these singles, over the years they have all gone away except for the
30-40 which I have a personal letter from Mr,Rowe Clark the Old historian from Savage. Also the 22H which a fun shooter.

Randy,
I had a 219L, in 30-30, a few years ago.
I sold it in a moment of temporary insanity and have not seen another for sale reasonable in many years.
It shot quite well and was light and handy in the woods.

The Savage 219 was a world better gun than the H&R in fit, finish, and proportions. I don't suppose that anyone would be able to make a new one for any kind of a reasonable price nowadays.

The 30-40 kicked like a mule, but always on the mark. the 25-20 was way smooth and that's the last 219 I sold . and it had a 410 barrel with it.
Savage had a good barrel.

Had a few of these a while back. Kept the .22 Hornet and sold the rest at a nice profit. Put the money in more Stevens single shots. Neat guns. Prices have been going up over the years. Don't recall ever hearing of a .30-40. There were several variations that are not in the books. Heard of .22 LR and .22 smoothbore. Had one that was rechambered in .219 Zipper and another neat .22 K Hornet with the heaviest wierd wood stock that I had ever seen. They do have their own following.

The 30-40 was a R & D gun or it was a factory re-work off the line in 1958. Rowe Clark was very interested in this rifle. He told me they
had built 2 -30-40's and 2 -45-70's in the R&D department Rowe Clark
was in charge .I could not see myself firing a 45-70 round in that lite of a
gun , the 30-40 got your attention.

Have often though of getting a 30-30 rechambered to 30-40 and am interested to see that at least one exists, maybe even as a factory job.  I don't recall whether or not the guns had serial numbers so I wonder if Roe Clark was able to say yours was a factory job.   Also, is it mechanically any different from the others?  Different lockup, etc.?

It looks to be the same as the Hornet, only smoother like they spent some time on the cocking system .
this gun has a serial number and it is from 1958

The proof marks on the barrel and action told him it was done at the
the factory, but not sure if it was done in the R&D department.

It is a stamped over -30to40 with two proof marks.

If you want I can take some photos and post them in the morning.

The 200B was/is my favorite shotgun. I got my first one in 1958. And I have always wanted a 219 B rifle. I could never find one in anything other than 30-30 wcf.

henpeckmuch; The 30-30, was the common barrel.25-20 and 22H were
were easy to come up with ,the 32-20 is very rare to come across. All the other barrels are a stroke of luck to find. the 30-40 was a factory
R&D or factory done chamber from the proof marks should make it correct . On the barrel the caliber had one proof from what I have seen.

I ment to say the 220 B was my fovorite shotgun, not (200 B) The 220 B is the same receiver and "look" as the 219 B. I have two of them in my safe now. Since reading this thread I started looking again for a 219B. I found one again in 30-30 but in poor shape. I think the 219 B was way ahead of its time.

i picked up a 219 in 25-20 a few months back.  yesterday, i bought another in 218bee with a 12g barrel as well !  they won't arrive for a few days as coming from interstate, but i'm hoping the bee will shoot as well as the 25  Cheesy

i love these little things.  they seem to shoot a lot better than they have any right to.

I have recently seen two of them. One in 22 hornet, the other in 30-30, butthey were both just beat to death. One of them was being advertised as a parts gun. What a waste! I'll just have to keep an eye out for one at a good price. Good luck on your new purchase Saladin.

I was waiting to see if someone mentioned the .32-20. That may be the best caliber of the bunch. I thought i had a full set until now. I had never heard of a 30-40 before. My .32-20 has a Tinite stock and forearm. They are great little rifles.

Savage also made a 219 in 45-70, That would be a hand-full .

I had collected these a while back. Never saw any reference to a .45-70 anywhere. This does not mean they did not make any though. I talked to a guy that had one in .22LR that was never listed either. Think I would rather shoot the .22 than the .45-70! I at one time had a .22 Hornet, a .30-30, a rechamber to .22 K-Hornet, and a rechamber to .219 Zipper. Never could find a .25-20 or .32-20. Eventyualy sold all but the .22 Hornet and reinvested in Stevens singleshots.

Rowe Clark had told me about the 45-70 as a R&D gun along with the 30-40 as being a R&D also. I had sold my 25-20 awhile back. I could never come up with the 32-20.
