Dixie Gun Works Pedersoli Sharps

A few weeks ago I was in a gun shop in Lodi, Ohio and saw a Pedersoli Sharps .40-65 on the wall.  Didn't buy it at the time, but kept thinking about it.  Last week, I went shooting with my cousin, who has a Pedersoli Sharps in .40-65, and he let me shoot it with smokeless and black powder loads at 200 yards.  I did fairly well with it and really liked it, so that evening I went back to the gun shop and bought the gun.  It came with an MVA #113 globe front sight/inserts, a Kermit Hoke Mid Range tang sight, a leather lace up cheek piece, several boxes of lubed cast bullets, and various other items.  Paid $1,500.00 for it.  Learned that the gun was originally purchased in 2002 and the Hoke sight was purchased in 2002 or 2003.  Appears to have been shot very little and is in very nice condition.
I took it to the range last night (only goes to 100 yards), and was very impressed with how it shot using cast bullets and IMR 4759 powder.  I am
now hooked on the single shot craze and plan on doing a lot more shooting with it.
I shoot left handed, and as the vernier tang sight is not marked on the right side of the elevation ladder, I called Kermit Tool and was advised they would replace the sight to the newer one for $75.00, so that will be done in the near future.  I hope to pick up some good information from this site too.

Bill,

Just guessing you are in NE Ohio, you might want to venture to a range near New Philadelphia, Tusco Rifle club.

They have gobs of shoots going on there, many types also.

Get hold of C Ebright 330 364 6842 and I bet he'll get you there and do some shootin or just watchin, but take your rifle and join right in.

Ole Leadball from here online might even help you out, but you have to decipher much of what he says. Yanno take what he says with a grain of salt, or maybe a shaker full.

Welcome, and IMO you made a good first choice with your Pedersoli. Their accuracy is second to none and the price is better too. You might try scanning this site for topics with Sharps or Pedersoli in the subject line, for more info on your setup. Please dont hesitate to ask questions, most of these folks are really knowedgeable and helpful about single shots.
Welcome again and good luck, Joe

You're right.  I live in Elyria, Ohio and have been to Tusco several times for the Sunday steel plate shoots where I shoot my M1A that I built.  I will be going there with my cousin and a couple of other friends for silhouette shoots, which I believe are on the 2nd Saturday of each month.  I'm looking forward to it.  Thanks.
My home range is West Branch Rifle & Pistol Club south of Grafton, Ohio off of SR 83.  I also shoot at Vermilion Rifle & Pistol Club, where another buddy of mine is a member.  That club has ranges at 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards.
As a matter of fact, the original owner of my Pedersoli lives in Vermilion, Ohio.  Quite a coincidence.

Guess we sucked you in pretty good.
Suppose I'll have to leave the seat up in the van.

You didn't suck me in Chuck, but I sure as hell am glad I went shooting with you guys Wednesday.  Had a hell of a good time.  I'm not tyin' no damn flies and I'm not goin' fly fishin' though, so forget that.  I'm going to have a table at the Berea show this coming weekend with another buddy of mine if you decide to go.  Have to sell a few guns to feed the new hobby and pay for the "new" rifle.  I got my RCBS .40-65 dies today, but the Lyman taper crimp is on back order.  Also ordered an 8lb jug on 4759 today.

Tusco is in Midvale, Ohio which is near N. Phila.  It's my home club.  There is a big 3 day shoot starting Friday thru Sunday.  I will be there, I have so MUCH to learn.  Actually I don't have a hard time understanding Leadball, you just have to hold your head a little crooked is all.    Regards...g

there are actually a bunch of folks that shoot at Tusco.  I just got my wife and daughter going also. we missed the last shoot on the 9th but all will be there for the sept shoot.

Jennifer (my daughter, 12) is learning to shoot her CPA in 38-55. First time she shot it, (after the fouler) she drilled the 100 yd sighter 2 times dead center and then whacked the 150 yd sighter dead on, she has good eyes.

My wife is also shooting a 38-55.
