Hepburn Project

I found a Hepburn No. 3 at a gun show last year. The receiver was badly pitted. the barrel pitted, the stock in decent condition, and the barrel had been relined from 25-21 Stevens to 22 Hornet. The rifling in the liner is in excellent condition. I have posted some before pictures, after repair and polished, and after the case hardening. I should have it back in a week or so. I am going to cleanup the breech block, hammer, triggers and screws, and then nitre blue them.

When I get the action back, I'll post more pictures.

The restoration work to the receiver was done by Curt Hardcastle. On the Treebone Carving website there are photos of a RB that he did.

Beatiful work Ken! Amazing what some guys can do with badly pitted receivers! I did my Hepburn restoration a couple years ago. Actually started it several years ago, but it took me over a year of spare time to finish it.
Looks like your's was similar to mine. I ended up having to have the Hepburn patent dates restruck after polishing, as they disappeared. I also had the frame engraved before recasing it.
Look forward to seeing the end product!-Vall
