I have just picked up a Farrow at auction that is in need of some repairs. Does anyone happen to have an exploded view of the Farrow action? Mine has DBT and is a take down model.

Hello Mike,

You can find his original 'Patent' here :-

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Be aware that 'Patent' drawings aren't always duplicated in the production design. It is known to be a simple action with very few parts.

Buffalo Arms offer full size 'engineers drawings' at US$92.95. Ouch.

Rudi Prusok at the ASSRA Archive offers A4 size drawings at US$ 10.00 a set. These would have to be enlarged at your local photocopying shop but that would be just a couple of dollars.  Wink

I believe that these are the same drawings as obtainable from Buffalo Arms, just smaller.

Harry, thank you very much, at least the drawing helps identify some of the parts.
I wish this drawing had the double set triggers on it,  I'll have to look elswhere for that one. My Farrow has duble set triggers and a takedown pin under the barrel.

Michael,
Do you know which model of Farrow rifle you have. The 1884 and 1887
model cast kits are offered my Rodney Storie, see:- (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Neither show DST's, but the shape of the action  and parts may give you a clue as to which model you have. Farrows are not at all common and there could be variations in production models.

It is even possible that the DST's were added later by a gunsmith and are not part of the original action.

I'm not sure if double set triggers were an option or not, guess I am going to have to get a copy of the catologe from the reprinters and see. They are different in appearance from normal double set triggers, these look more like an early Maynard as the front trigger is a normal looking trigger reversed to set inside the front trigger gaurd curve. Neat looking arrangement.
But I won't be sure on the model until I get it shipped to me next week.

I've seen a couple of Farrow rifles as well as some re-barreled Ballards that were said to have Farrow barrels, Farrows have always been rare guns and the two I've seen were not alike. I think it's possible that these were all hand made rifles. One of the old Gun Digests had a fine article on W.M. Farrow and his guns, with lots of nice pictures, you should find a copy of that one. Could you post a picture of your rifle? I'd love to see it.

Hi Bob, just as soon as the postman dfelivers I will start taking some pictures and post them. I think you are correct that they all seem to be handbuilt and each one may be different.

Now that you can see the set trigger set up what do you think? It is different as I said. It looks like a Maynard set up.

Mike,

I have a similar Farrow.  John Mitchell here in Bend is fitting a second barrel to it, so he could probably copy the firing pin for you while he has it.  His phone is (503) 317-0820.

My triggers are just like yours, as were those in other Farrow rifles I've seen.

Mike,

On the two Ballards I saw with possible Farrow barrels, the barrels were both long and thin tapered barrels with what I would describe as "poly-grooving" equal lands and grooves with maybe ten or more. What's the rifling like in your gun?

Hey Bob, I'm not sure if there is any left as someone saw fit to stick a 22 rf liner in it. I'm not sure if they just stuck it in or if they drilled out the barrel before setting it. I had one other rifle that the liner was just stuck right in the existing bore and then center punched to hold it in place. I'll have to wait and see.
