Have run into a Soper sporting rifle, new 45-70 barrel. NICE rifle!!! Extractor doesn't work, however, and wonder if anyone has any Soper knowledge?

2 types of Sopers, but the best-known is the one with the side-pivoting breechblock and sidelever. The Soper trick shot , Mr. Warwick, once got off 60 shots/minute with one, and they supposedly can be fired with the action open just pulling the trigger, which will close the breechblock and fire the round in the chamber. Operating the sidelever will open the action and eject the case. It was a rather complex action though.

Yep, this is one of the "2nd model's". Can't find any drawings however, so don't have a clue as to possible troubles with the extractor. Any ideas?

I recently had an opportunity to handle a Soper. It is a very interesting action. I was told that the firing pin retracts via a gear. Operating the side lever not only opens the action and eject the case, it also brings the exposed hammer to full cock.

. Gert has put a copy of the 1882 Soper patent up on his site. You should get an idea of the layout.
