dead_eye;

Thank you for taking the time to write this whole thing up!
My hat is off to you!  OK... I'm not actually wearing a hat, but "thought that counts" and all that.

I would love to see more pictures of the parts and assembly!

Thank you again for sharing this project.... it's very cool!

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.  Very Very good post.
One question.  Do all three Ocular, erector and objective lense face the same direction.  Flat side to the eye? Convex away from the eye?
I have tubing and lenses ordered. Looking forward to making one.
Thanks
Bob

Thank you and yes all lenses face away from your eye. when you finish the cell for the eyepiece and you insert the glass make sure that the flat part of the glass is against the shoulder of the cell so when it is inserted into the tube the sleeve that holds the lens in place is on the inside. this gives a nice clean look to the scope.
good luck with your build. Grin

Dead Eye,
I think this is one of the best how to posts I've read at any forum! Never wanted to build a scope before, but I'm sure going to give it a try now!

Marlinguy, I would agree. I've only seen one or two others that could come even close.  Really fantastic stuff.

Thanks Dead_eye,

I wonder if lens from this source could be retrofitted to an existing scope? I have a small external adjustment scope which wish (NEED)had more magnification but do not have big bucks to have someone modify it. It is 4x while I need 8x min. and 10, 12 or even 15 would be better. I guess one would have to get inside and see how thing are made?

Great thread, by the way.

I pretty sure it can be done. i haven't tried to retrofit a scope yet so i am not sure. sorry i can't be any help.

There is a book that tells you how to build a scope that is like the unertl.
it is called sporting rifles and scope sights. by Truman Henson
copyright 1950
the book has the math formulas for designing a scope and tell how they make their scope.

If you search ABEbooks.com for that book, you'll find several copies for sale...

Actually, you'll find one fewer now, since I just ordered a copy less than a minute after I read this post.   Cool

My gun library NEEDED it!
