Is there an easy (Read: free/online) source for finding the date of manufacture on a Hepburn?  I bought one last month and curiosity is starting to get to me.

there are no records, but if the barrel is marked "E. Remington & Sons, it was made prior to Remington's re-organization in 1888, after that is "Remington Arms Co" until 1910, when Remington merged with UMC cartridge company.Hepburns were made until 1907, so most of them are antiques, i would say all of them because sales after 1898 were very poor.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Hopefully we may have some info in the future. The Rem. Collector's Assn. has been dutifully going through many tons of old Rem. records found in the attic of Rem. Co.
They are slowly working on sorting everything they have out, and maybe someday will be able to shed some history and data with the rest of us!
