When did H&R come out with the pushbutton action of the H&R Topper (now the Handi Rifle)?

Some say it was in the 1800s but I can't find any reference to an action like that before 1900.

Does anyone know the patent number?

I believe the H&R Topper action with the push button release dates from the 1960's and was introduced the same time they added the transfer bar safety.  Prior to that, H&R shotguns had a top lever similar to all top break double shotguns.  I have never seen an older H&R top break shotgun made before the 1960s  with the push button release.

BTW if you want to see a nice single shot rifle built on an older small frame H&R shotgun, look at this:

I got to watch Ed's rifle being built. He has had a few others built sence the H&R, one was a 2 barrel set on a beretta. I moved across the state after I did the first one for him.
