SSRJ new issue
Mar 29th, 2006 at 3:57pm
Print Post
Is rolling off the presses to the postoffice as I write this.  should be at a mailbox near you soon--depending on the vageries of USPO of course.
This will be the LAST-THANK-GOD of the "double issues"   It puts the nail in the coffin of the "missing" issues from the 2004 transition year.
Now we can focus on getting back on schedule if articles get to me a little quicker--I'm trying to accellerate it so we are getting caught up to the calendar.  if you are submitting something, please do it ASAP and make sure your club scores get to Marty as soon after the matches are done as you can manage.

DWS;
I received my advance copies of the "Journal" today. I think the fellers and gals will be more than pleased.

Good work, DWS!

The last issue of SSRJ I have received is Sept-Oct 2005. Have there been Journals issued since and if so how can I obtain copies?

One more time,  no aspersions to anyone, but we have tried to explain it in each issue.  guess no one reads the whole thing.

Anyway.  in 2004--during the transition between editors we fell way behind.  In fact in that year there were only 4 (four) issues printed.  in order to make up for that the BOD of the
ASSRA directed me to make two "double issues" in issue year 2005.   We are still behind schedule by about an issue and a half.  the issue that is currently in the mail is the final issue of 2005--the Nov/ Dec Issue.  IT is the final double issue.

I want desperately to catch up and have the issues coming out during the months thay are nominally dated to.  (I have other journal related stuff that has had to be backburnered untill we get over this hump and on a timely basis) However I can only print what I get in material submitted.  We have a regular number of pages to fill, and if I can't fill them it just sets on the desk untill I get it filled and can get it ready to go to the printer.  depending on their schedule the printer takes another 2 weeks or so to get it done and into the mail.

IF we had more articles submitted so that I had a file of good but unpublished articles to draw from I could get the issues out in a more timely manner.  We have a core of regular "staff" writers and a few others that submit things occasionally, but has been just enough to keep us going  "pay check to paycheck".  I am sure they are VERY tired of my attempts to get them to give me articles sooner and more often.  Arms can be twisted only so far -- I know.

please understand, I'm not whining--at least at the minute anyway.  Just trying to explain why things are the way they are.  I have had offers to help with various ascpects of production, but I have not been able to take advantage of them, and will not be able to until we get enough raw material on file to work in a more professional manner.

Bottom line:  the Nov/Dec 2005 Issue which is currently in the mail IS the most recent issue.   We are trying to catch up.

The November December issue has made it to Western Wisconsin. It should be getting around the rest of the world soon.

Look at the bright side...
Getting the same question means you're getting folks that have never read the journal before, and haven't been privy to the answer...

Like me, for example... I just mailed my check a couple weeks ago, and have yet to read an issue ( a bit too early to be getting anything yet..the check only cleared yesterday).

So had I not read this thread, I'd be the next poor shlep to ask Cheesy

Just got my issue!

Since I just joined a couple weeks ago, I was expecting it to take longer...

Talk about a good introductory issue to the Association! Cheesy

Paul, Dan, and Pete,
After reading Mr. Precious' requests and responses to civil questions I would remind you that sometimes the best business you do is the business you walk away from.

I enjoyed the last issue and I applaud your efforts to provide the membership with an informative magazine. Obviously, Mr. Precious has never volunteered his time for a worthy cause. He is a classic definition of a critic- "One who feels qualified to criticize the efforts of others because of never having created anything worthy of note."

Was that with the monthy installment of sunshine that had to be shipped it?  (I live in Pulaski, where we have fabric mills and furiture plants in lieu of coal mines.)

My copy arrived in NE Wisconsin on the 11th only slightly dog eared this time from the USPS. I've already enjoyed hours of entertainment and education from it. Frankly I look forward to every issue. My thanks to those responsible for not only the magazine but the continuation of this organization.

Cat Whisperer,

We do not get sunshine apportioned monthly here.  Our senator has been very good lately about getting government pork barrel projects passed.  Two years ago we completed the southwest Virginia sunshine pipeline and for a nominal fee we are all hooked up.  Only problem is a possum got in and blocked the pipeline at Cumberland Gap last summer.  Massive delays in red tape trying to get the Corps of Engineers to fix it.  Fortunately, we have relief as our Senator has gotten the tax payers to ship us in sunshine daily on tandem trucks.  The vote is a wonderful thing.

I agree completly with what you said. Nothing frosts me more that some guy who thinks that his first membership entitles him to tear in to everything cause he plunked down $35.00.
In times like this I like to quote Pope (Alaxander not H.M.)

Critics are like eunuchs in a harem. They know what to do, they see it done every day. They are simply incapable of doing it themselves.

For the record I am proud of the work that the Association does in putting togeather the Journal. The editor, writers, and photographers put in a lot of time and energy to make the magazine enjoyable for the membership. It may not be perfect but they put in their best effort on every page. The idea that someone would walk in off the street plunk down their money and starts to whine is at best in bad taste.

It appears that we have a multi-personality troll onboard.  Perhaps it is a situation the moderator may wish to take a look at.
I am willing to listen to most criticizm, heaven knows we are still a ways down on the learning curve and there are always ways to improve the Journal.  However inanities, vague, meaningless, and sophmoric comments by individuals who lack either maturity or honesty to sign their names have no credibility.   Back it up with a real name and a membership number and you'll get heard. without that you're a waste of oxygen in my book.

Hey AKMike, global warming has slowed the dogsleds, so yours will be a little later.  That's OK though, some other scientists just announced we're going to get another ice age, so you will have to teach ALL of us how to cope!   Roll Eyes
