.32-20 Barrel Blank Makers?

I've been toying with the idea of building a couple rifles for my neices ( they're not old enough to use 'em yet.. but time marches on..).

The .32-20 seems like a fine starter cartridge, so I need to start thinking about getting a prototype built (for me, of course!).

I'm having some trouble finding "decent quality" mid-range price wise .32 barrels with a bore and groove for .32-20.
I'd prefer a more or less "straight" blank, as the contour I have in mind isn't any factory contour I have seen (I'm copying it from an old 8.15x46R single shot bolt action I have).

I'd appreciate any tips on makers of appropriate bore/twist for .32-20.
Not looking for "triple lapped-hand honed-Ultra-Super-Match" grade, however.  I'll eventually be buying THREE.. and so "pretty good" is plenty good.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe it would be easier to go to a .30-20, and use a .308 barrel instead...  plenty of those around, and a good choice of twist rates.   FWIW, I believ ethe 30-20 is one of the most versatile cartridges out to 200 yds.  Good for gallery loads at 25 and 50, and will also shoot heavy bullets at longer range...

I certainly agree with martinibelgian,a 308 barrel is the way to go for the 32/20----308 barrels can be had from 90 bucks to ----whereever. If the 308 barrel is used the chamberings are almost endless [32/20----30/30 Wesson---30/30 winchester and etc.  Also, there are probably more bullet molds available for the 308 barrel than anyother.   leadball

Actually, I HAVE been thinking about the .30-20!

I LOVE the idea for me.. but I'm concerned that my neices wouldn't be able to get factory ammunition for their rifles (their dad doesn't reload, and I'm 900 miles away).

I'm still very tempted by the .30-20 though... You can't get any easier to find than .30 caliber bullets and barrels!

One question though; who stocks a set of reamers (rougher to make dies, finisher to make a chamber)?
OF course, with all the work I"m thinking about saddling myself with to build the rifles, making the reamers and dies myself isn't going to add THAT much!

Paul- Any of the reamer makers will make a reamer piloted correctly for the .308 barrel. I had a 2 standard ones, so had one regound to proper pilot diameter, and got a 1* included angle throat reamer to throat it. Standard dies will work fine- just use a .308 expander ball instead of .311- or NONE AT ALL! A standard reamer has a "ball seat" rather than a tapered throt, and standard 32-20 LEAD bullet ammo will chamber just fine in the tapered throat. Jacketed probably will too, though I cannot recall having tried it specifically. I would NOT use a Stevens 44 for this, but most of the other available actions will stand up to heavy bullet loads with this case and breachseated bullets. Have FUN!!!!!!!!
