Scopes vs. rules

Being new to this sport, I'm not sure what rules apply to a scope. I have 2 Unertls that I would like to use. Both are external adjusted target models. The 1-1/2" really needs a serious refurbishing by an expert. What do I have to watch out for not to get disqualified?

The other is a 2" 24X target version that I would like to leave alone.

With my eyesight, I would like to use them if possible... is it possible?

thanks in advance,
Chris

Chris, If you are shooting in one of the "any sight" matches, which most ASSRA matches are, then either of those scopes will be fine.  Some specific matches require a scope with external adjustment or some even more stringent limitations, but most or our regular matches that allow scopes at all (those not labeled "iron sight" matches) will allow virtually any sights up to and including the newest of the big internal adjust scopes.  In fact, a lot of the guys are going to the Weaver T36 scopes.   Shocked

Unertls are a great scope that can be used in most ASSRA matchs. The added bonus is that you won't have to put one of those ugly stubby internal adjustable scopes on your rifle.
For repair work I have always used Gill Parsons. You can get his address form the web page section on this board.

There is a fellow in Idaho, John Knudsen  Knudsen@earthlink.net  , That does outstanding work on scopes. I don't know if he refinishes them, but I don't believe you can beat his service and prices for crosshair replacement and cleaning. Just another option.

this was the right place to ask.

Take care and happy shooting!

I highly recommend Mark Sexton in Tulsa OK.  I don't have contact info handy, but maybe someone here does.  He has worked over three old scopes for me so far.

I have three scopes at Parson's for service right now, been there since last summer, and his supposed/promised 5-6 month delivery date has come and gone. I called last month and the guy gave me some weasel words, promised delivery in "about 4 weeks". It seemed obvious to me that he was just telling me anything that he thought would satisfy me for the moment. My impression of the fellow with whom I spoke was very negative, seemed like a real weak sister to me.

Sorry if I've misjudged him, we'll see what kind of repairs he does. He's had my scopes AND my money since last summer. I'm anxiously awaiting the contact info for Brent's guy, I think I'll try him next time.

Gill Parsons has done good work for me, perhaps not real fast but always a good job
